Elementary School Accidentally Placed Into Lockdown In Somerset County: Police
Branchburg Township Police responded to the call at the elementary school on Wednesday afternoon.

BRANCHBURG, NJ — Whiton Elementary School in Branchburg was accidentally placed into lockdown on Wednesday afternoon, Branchburg Police reported.
"School Administration was able to quickly determine what occurred and that no emergency ever existed. The Branchburg Police responded immediately to the call and confirmed the error of the lockdown call," said Branchburg Township Police.
The elementary school staff treated the event as a lockdown drill and finished the lockdown by sharing with the students that it was a drill, said police.

After the lockdown, Branchburg Police kept a minimal presence at the school to prevent unnecessary worry from students and staff.
