Panthers Boys Soccer Takes a Bite Out of Lions

Bridgewater-Raritan nets one-goal win at North Hunterdon.

The Bridgewater-Raritan High School boys soccer team traveled to North Hunterdon Tuesday, and showed up as unwelcome guests, taking the contest 2-1.

The first 55 minutes of the game was characterized by back-and-forth, rudimentary play. It was then that North Hunterdon's Brian Oldakowski scored the first goal of the game on an assist from teammate Andrew Reed.

The Panthers got the message and stepped up their play. Just five minutes later, a long ball was played past midfield to Bridgewater's Thomas Miller on the right side of the pitch.

Marked, Thomas took a shot 35 yards from the goal. North Hunterdon goalkeeper Zach Dahme came out to make a play, but the ball scooted past him and into the net to tie the score.

Moments later, Bridgewater-Raritan's Andrew Wilkinson took advantage of Dahme being out of position, and the winning goal was scored.

"They won this on pure guts," Bridgewater-Raritan coach Rick Szeles said. "It was all heart. I didn't even know where the second goal came from."

The Panthers improved to 2-0 and will next host Pingry Friday at home.
