BRIDGEWATER, NJ — The Bridgewater Council unanimously voted and finalized an ordinance to ban the sale or growth of recreational marijuana in the township during Thursday night's meeting.

A public hearing was held prior to the vote with one resident voicing their opposition.

"I believe strongly that the majority of Bridgewater residents do not want the sale of marijuana in Bridgewater Township, period," said Councilman Filipe Pedroso. "That's the bottom line. My job is to represent what is best for Bridgewater and what Bridgewater residents want."

The ordinance entitled "recreational marijuana" would ban the sale, cultivation, manufacturing and testing of recreational marijuana within the township. (Read the full ordinance below)

Pedroso noted that this ordinance can not stop residents from using marijuana if the state legalizes it. The ordinance will just stop the sale and growth of marijuana within the township.
