Bridgewater Calls For Clarity, Transparency On Unidentified Drones

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Bridgewater passed a resolution on Thursday night calling on federal and state government officials "to address the issue of unidentified drones, ensure public safety, and produce the transparency and accountability that the residents of New Jersey deserve.

"Today Bridgewater Township is passing a resolution demanding accountability from state and federal leaders. It's time to stop dismissing the public’s concerns," said Councilman Filipe Pedroso during the Thursday Council meeting. "We deserve to know the truth."

The resolution notes that President-elect Donald Trump frequently travels and resides in the area just a few miles north of Bridgewater, which exposes Somerset County to higher potential risks posed by these unidentified drones.

"Vague statements such as 'there is no known credible threat' are not enough," said Bridgewater Council President Tim Ring. "Our residents deserve clear answers and proactive measures to address this issue."

The resolution, unanimously passed on Thursday by the Council, asks for officials to:

• Provide a comprehensive and coordinated response to address the issue of unidentified drones.
• Ensure public safety through transparency, accountability, and decisive action.
• Investigate potential risks, especially given the proximity of Somerset County to areas frequented by the President-elect.

The resolution will be sent to President Joseph Biden,Governor Phil Murphy, the New Jersey State Legislature, and relevant Federal, State, and County agencies "to underscore the urgency of this matter and advocate for immediate action."

"This is about safeguarding our families, our privacy, and public safety," said Mayor Matthew Moench in a recent video about drones(see below). "Our community deserves to ensure its safety."

Recently, Moench participated in a call hosted by the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.

"Unfortunately, the briefing offered very little substantive information," said Moench. "I will continue to monitor the situation and keep our residents informed. This is about protecting our families, privacy, and public safety."

The Township is also working closely with local law enforcement and elected representatives, including Congressman Tom Kean and Senator Steinhardt, to coordinate advocacy efforts. Regular briefings with the Bridgewater Police Department are also underway to ensure preparedness in addressing potential incidents.

"The Bridgewater Township Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community," said Bridgewater Police Chief John Mitzak. "We are continuously monitoring the situation and will respond appropriately to any verified incidents involving drones. Your cooperation and careful attention to the facts are essential in helping us maintain public safety and enforce the law."
