Bridgewater Cancels Summer Camps Due To Coronavirus

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Bridgewater Township has canceled the recreation department's Summer Playground and Pee Wee Playground programs for this year due to the coronavirus.

The decision came on Wednesday as many of the facilities, such as school district playgrounds, that the department uses to run these programs will not be available to use this year. Township playgrounds have been closed since March when the outbreak began.

"As a result, we cannot assure healthy, safe, fun, and successful programs for our participants and staff," the recreation department stated in a letter to parents.

Refunds will be issued. Residents who paid by credit card will see this refund in 5 to 7 business days and those who paid by check will receive their refund by mail in 4 to 6 weeks.

In light of the cancellation the Recreation Department has announced a new summer program list which will include new skills and drills clinics, arts and crafts activities, and more. They are expected to be rolled out by the end of June.

"The Township still hopes to be able to provide active outlets for all of our residents this summer even if the programming is not identical to years past," the recreation department stated. "We appreciate our resident’s patience during these uncertain times."
