Bridgewater Children Create Art Show

Students exhibited more than 100 works of art inspired by famous artists including Claude Monet, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso

Bridgewater, NJ -- A children’s art exhibition at The Preschool Place and Kindergarten on May 2 showcased their creativity.

The artists are students of The Preschool Place and Kindergarten’s Kinder-Plus program; a half-day kindergarten enrichment for public school kindergarten students. The art show was the culmination of a visual arts program in which students learn about, and then create their own works in the style of well- known artists.

The students exhibited more than 100 works of art inspired by famous artists including Claude Monet, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, Wassily Kandinsky, and Pablo Picasso. A total of 11 artists were studied, and children utilized a wide range of art media to create their masterpieces.

“Our students’ work and passion for art is exciting, and the exhibition celebrates their effort and creativity. It is our role to provide children with rich experiences that help them become lifelong learners and thinkers. This art experience encourages our students to think and express their own interpretation of an artistic style, and supports the students’ originality by developing their confidence in this mode of expression,” Director Carol Rubnitz said.

The young artists also impressed parents and visitors by leading guided tours of the exhibition. The students readily shared their enthusiasm and understanding of the exhibits, artistic styles, and artists studied.

“My son is so happy and proud to take me on a tour of their art gallery. Everyone worked very hard and their art is amazing. I want to frame everything he did,” parent Jennifer Lavender said.

The kindergarten students completed their ambitious project over several weeks.

“Our Kinder-Plus program is theme-based, in which time is devoted so students can truly explore the subject matter of the theme. This makes it possible for students to create their outstanding works, requiring great focus and skill,” Director Carol Rubnitz said. “Picasso once said, ‘Every child is an artist,’ and The Preschool Place and Kindergarten believes it! It might be messy, but it is important to our children’s development to inspire the creative artist in each of them.”
