The cause of the fire has not been confirmed but there was a campsite and fire pit in the burned area, fire officials said.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Firefighters were busy Saturday night as they battled a brush fire on the western edge of Bridgewater Township.

The fire reported around 6:30 p.m. off Old Stagecoach Road in the Martinsville section of town was estimated to be 500 x 500 feet and smoke could be seen from several miles away, said Bill Rose, with the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Co.

"We were on scene for about three hours and turned the site over to the New Jersey Forestry Service, who performed a controlled burn in the area to remove additional wildlands fuel," said Rose.
