Bridgewater To Hire 3 Officers To Beef Up School Protection

The township has approved an ordinance to add 3 Class III special police officers for added school safety. And they are actively hiring.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Bridgewater Township and school district have agreed to hire three Class III Police Officers to increase school safety.

The addition of the three officers to the Police Department will directly increase school safety in all Bridgewater schools. The agreement is in response to the School District’s interest in hiring the special officers who are highly trained and posses the necessary skills and experience to immediately enhance school safety, according to Bridgewater Mayor Daniel Hayes Jr.

The township council unanimously supported the agreement during the Oct. 1 meeting. The cost of the officers will be paid by the school district as part of the agreement.

“I am proud to support this agreement dedicated to ensuring a safe learning environment for our students. It is another example of the strong positive relationship we have with the Superintendent and School Board. I appreciate Council President Rose and the council for their unanimous support of our effort, ” stated Hayes.

The Officers will be part of the Bridgewater Police Department under the supervision of Chief Al Nicaretta and is currently accepting resumes for the positions.

Applicants must possess the following qualifications:

  • Must be a retired law enforcement officer less than 65 years of age, who served as a duly qualified, fully trained, full-time officer in any municipality or county of this State or as a member of the New Jersey State Police and was separated from that prior service in good standing, within 3 years of appointment to this position.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the functions of the position, determined in accordance with the Police Training Commission.
  • Must possess a New Jersey Police Training Commission Basic Police Officer Certification or New Jersey State Police Academy Certification.
  • Must possess a valid New Jersey Driver License.
  • Must successfully pass a background investigation to include a medical exam, drug screen and psychological exam.

Starting salary for the Class III Special Police Officer shall be $25 per hour and he/she shall work a part-time work schedule, to be determined.
