Bridgewater Man Charged In Fatal DWI Crash Is Ex-Cop: Officials
Kevin Betyeman had previously served with the Mountainside Police Department. He was charged with fatally hitting a runner in Raritan.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A Bridgewater man who was charged with DWI after fatally hitting a runner is a retired Mountainside Police sergeant, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office confirmed.
Kevin D. Betyeman, 56, of Bridgewater had previously served with the Mountainside Police Department for 25 years before retiring in July 2019.
Mountainside Police Chief Joseph Giannuzzi did not immediately respond to Patch's request for comment.

Betyeman was charged with driving while intoxicated after fatally hitting an avid runner, Celeste Andresen, 60, of San Manuel, Ariz., while in a marked crosswalk in Raritan on Friday, the SCPO said. Read More: Drunk Driver From Bridgewater ID'd In Fatal Crash: PD

Betyeman has also been charged with reckless driving, careless driving, and failure to yield to a pedestrian. Additional criminal charges are pending awaiting the lab results of toxicology, officials said.
Betyeman has been released pending a future court appearance.
