Bridgewater Man ID'd As Person Fatally Hit By Train

A Bridgewater man was identified as the person hit and killed by a NJ Transit train just west of the Bridgewater station on Wednesday.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A Bridgewater man was identified as the trespasser hit and killed by a New Jersey Transit train just west of the Bridgewater station on Wednesday afternoon.

Robert E. Kelly, 30, of Bridgewater was identified as the victim, NJ Transit spokeswoman Liz Chamberlian said Thursday.

The Raritan Valley Line 5127 train had left Penn Station in New York at 1:47 p.m. and was heading towards Raritan when it struck and killed Kelly at 3:12 p.m., according to NJ Transit spokesman Jim Smith.

There were no injuries reported to the approximately 35 customers or crew on board, Smith said.

The RV line was temporarily suspended and was running with a 60-minute delay in both directions between Raritan and Dunellen until 8:40 p.m.
