Bridgewater Man With Machete and Bat Charges at Police: Report

Bridgewater, NJ -- A Bridgewater man wearing a ski mask and wielding a machete and baseball bat charged a police officer before being arrested, according to mycentraljersey.com.

Andrew Petkoski, 25, was charged with third-degree aggravated assault on a police officer, third-degree resisting arrest and third-degree possession of a weapon with the purpose to use it unlawfully.

Petkoski was found by police standing in the middle of Washington Valley Road in the area near Blossom Drive on March 10 at 12:34 p.m., according to an affidavit filed in Somerset County Superior Court posted by mycentraljersey.com.

Petkoski was allegedly striking passing cars with his bat and charged at a responding officer while swinging the bat, according to the affidavit.

He reportedly refused to drop the bat even when officers had their guns drawn and eventually Petkoski threw the bat at an officer, narrowly missing his head, according to the affidavit.

Police pepper sprayed Petkoski and then tackled him. However, he continued to fight before being finally handcuffed, according to the affidavit.

Two vehicles were reportedly damaged and the machete was found on Washington Valley Road.
