Bridgewater Marathoner Races Around The Globe

Joyjit Kundu is among an exclusive group of runners to earn the Abbott World Marathon Majors six-star medal.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — It all started with a 5K and Bridgewater runner Joyjit Kundu was hooked. He has since raced around the world and was recently recognized for his athletic achievement.

Kundu was recognized by the Abbott World Marathon Majors, which is a series of six of the largest and most renowned marathons in the world.

He completed marathons in Chicago, New York City, London, Tokyo, Berlin and Boston.

His journey began in 2015 when he ran his first marathon in New York City. He completed his journey with the Boston Marathon this past April earning the Abbott World Marathon Majors six-star medal.

As of the 2019 London Marathon there have only been 6,103 global six-star finishers, according to worldmarathonmajors.com.

"Wow, I was very emotional to be honest. I’ve been waiting to do this for a long time," Kundu said of his achievement.

Running the Boston Marathon in April was Kundu’s first time.

"I had so much anxiety and the six-star medal was on my mind. Given that Boston was the last marathon in my journey," Kundu said. "I was very emotional and glad I was able to finish."

Out of all the races, Kundu’s fastest was in Tokyo where he finished in 3 hours and 2 minutes.

Kundu’s running journey began in 2013 when he ran his first race in Hillsborough, a 5K. He was hooked ever since.

"I never imagined I would go to Berlin or Tokyo but did thanks to running I did," Kundu said.

His future running plans are to get a marathon time of 3 hours. Locals can follow Kundu and his running journey on his own Instagram page @yogirunnerjoy.

"If I can inspire people through this I am happy," Kundu said.
