Motorcyclist Seriously Injured, Airlifted After Crash In Somerset County

A Bridgewater motorcyclist was flown to a New Brunswick hospital after a Friday afternoon crash with a pickup truck, police said.

MONTGOMERY, NJ — A Bridgewater motorcyclist was seriously injured and hospitalized following a crash with a pickup truck on Friday.

On March 20 at 2:22 p.m., Montgomery Police went to East Mountain Road for a motor vehicle crash.

Police found that Fernando L. Alves, 57, of Newark, was driving a 2017 Toyota Tacoma east on East Mountain Road when he collided with Ryan J. Amaral, 32, of Bridgewater, who was driving a 1998 Harley Davidson 1200 motorcycle west on East Mountain Road, according to Montgomery Township Police on Monday.

Montgomery EMS and Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics provided medical care to Amaral at the scene. Amaral was then taken by NorthSTAR helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick for serious injuries.

Alves was uninjured, according to police. East Mountain Road was closed for several hours while the investigation continued.

The investigation is being led by the Montgomery Police Traffic Bureau, with help from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
