Bridgewater Residents Asked to Fill Out Zika Virus Survey

The survey will help identify community needs that will be addressed through public health educational materials and presentations

Bridgewater, NJ -- Bridgewater Mayor Dan Hayes is asking residents to complete a “Zika Virus Community Survey” by the local Department of Human Services.

Developed by Rutgers University Public Health Intern Paige Lispcome, the survey will assist the Department in identifying the community needs and concerns in regards to the Zika virus.

The needs will then be addressed through public health educational materials and presentations.

"Zika Virus is a mosquito-borne illness. The most common symptoms of Zika virus are mild fever, skin rashes, muscle and joint pain and conjunctivitis," according to a release sent out by the Bridgewater Department of Health and Human Services. "Zika virus is most known for its linkage to microcephaly in infants. Microcephaly is a condition in which the brain does not develop properly resulting in a smaller than normal head, intellectual disability and poor motor function. The virus is currently spreading through parts of South and Central America and has the potential to present a public health concern in the United States."
