Bridgewater Student Overcomes Cyberbullying Through Singing
Meghan Jenkins started singing at the age of 12 and has since performed in 9 musicals and 1 play including in New York City.
BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Upcoming Bridgewater-Raritan Regional High School senior Meghan Jenkins has been through a lot in her school years with bullying. Yet singing and performing has given her the confidence to overcome anything and succeed.
Jenkins is 17-years-old but her love for performing began when she was 12. She had a best friend in intermediate school that turned on her and began cyberbullying her.
Jenkins’ friend would hack into her account and would post things and message people pretending to be her.

“It got so bad that I didn’t want to get out of bed,” Jenkins said. “Music is what kept me going. It would help me forget about it. I could just go in my room and sing my heart out.”
Jenkins was able to turn a negative situation into something positive.

One day, Jenkins was singing in the shower and her mom thought it was the radio playing. When she learned it was Jenkins she encouraged her to pursue her passion.
Jenkins' first live performance was singing the “Star Spangled Banner” at Prince Rodgers Field in Bridgewater.
Since then she has performed in nine musicals and one play including a cabaret performance in New York City and playing the dragon in Shrek at the Mayo Performing Arts Center.
“I’m smiling so much,” Jenkins said of her experiences. “I am so happy I am doing this, it’s my dream.”
Jenkins also donates her talents to charitable causes in New York and New Jersey where she performs for senior citizens and helps to raise money for the homeless and victims with HIV.
“I will just sing for them and bring them flowers and hugs,” Jenkins sais. “It warms my heart. It isn’t about the fame, it’s about inspiring people and making an impact on everyone’s lives.”
“She really does have a heart of gold,” said Jenkins’ father, Raymond. “She has gotten through quite a bit in her life and is an amazing person.”
