The Wawa grand opening will include free coffee through June 4 and Bridgewater police, fire and rescue in a hoagie building competition.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — The Bridgewater Township Wawa location is opening on Friday with a grand opening celebration being held at the 580 Union Ave. location.

The new store, which features 5,585 square feet of retail space and an additional gasoline facility, will open to the public at 8 a.m. on May 26 with the grand opening ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. Free coffee will be offered to customers through June 4.

The festivities will include a parade of Wawa’s milestones, local representatives, members of the local police and fire Departments, Wawa General Manager Neil Donnelly, Wawa Area Manager Dan Holland, Wawa Director of Store Operations Jason Read, Wawa associates and customers and Wawa’s mascot Wally Goose, who will all join together for a ribbon cutting and ceremony.

To honor their bravery and commitment to the local communities, the grand opening event will conclude with a Hoagies for Heroes, hoagie building competition where the Bridgewater Township Police Department, Finderne Fire Department and Finderne First Aid and Rescue Squad will face off to see who can build the most hoagies in three minutes in the traditional Wawa way. Wawa will then present checks on behalf of the winning and runner up teams, for $1,000 to the charities of their choice.

The new store marks the 12th store to open in 2017. Throughout the year, Wawa plans to open 55 new stores and remodel of 75 existing stores throughout its operating area — including building another Wawa location on Route 202 in Bridgewater.
