Bridgewater Woman's Club Sews For Charities

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — The Bridgewater Woman’s Club is looking for new members to put their sewing skills to work to support local and international charities and campaigns.

For more than 20 years, members have made thousands of children’s hospital gowns for Operation Smile. These colorful and whimsical gowns are sent around the globe to more than 30 countries where life-changing cleft palate surgeries are performed. Their most recent donation consisted of 90 gowns, and another batch of gowns is already in the works.

Club members knit soft, comfortable "chemo" caps for cancer patients who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy. Cozy, colorful lap blankets are knitted or crocheted and donated to local hospice organizations.

Most recently, the club made more than 85 hats, to specification, in a wide range of sizes (for ages 5-18) in support of the Hat Not Hate campaign, a national anti-bullying project that aims to raise awareness and stand up to bullying.

In October, National Bullying Prevention Month, these blue hats will be distributed by an area distribution center to local schools that have an anti-bullying program.
