Submitted by BREA
This October Hillside Intermediate School hosted its 7th annual Celebrity Chef Challenge, “A Taste of Hillside,” an event when students, staff, parents, and community members came together with their favorite recipes to share with the school community. Guests had the opportunity to sample a wide range of delectable offerings and tip the treats they enjoy the most. This year’s event had more than 50 competing chef teams, who raised a record-breaking $4,750 for secondary and university scholarships for students in Kenya and Tanzania. The three big tip earners of the evening were students Natasha Mody raising $587, Team Muffin Attack coming in at $481, and teacher, Neal Sehgal, garnering $310.
Celebrity Chef Challenge is sponsored by Hillside’s Roots & Shoots club, Students Raising Students, which is committed to learning about the lives of children around the world and to promoting educational equity for all youth, no matter what their circumstances of birth are. Specifically, Students Raising Students raises awareness about the impact of poverty on the lives of children in East Africa and strives to increase their educational opportunities.
