It’s a bustling night here at Nik’s 202, and there is a definite buzz in the air. No, it’s not about “The Finer Diner’s” noteworthy upscale take on diner food. The talk on customers’ lips tonight is about the house magician, Tom Kennedy. A professional magician for the past 13 years, Tom has worked in every situation imaginable. “I can’t believe more restaurants in New Jersey aren’t doing this,” Kennedy says while toying with a deck of cards. “There is a real opportunity to give each and every guest a tremendously unique experience, and I’m just glad to help that happen.”
Tableside magic happens in what, for most diners’ experience, is dead time--the wait between ordering and the arrival of food. Tom notices a server leaving a table with the menus and excuses himself from the interview to make his approach. Within a moment, the table is laughing and in awe as Tom transforms a handful of one dollar bills into twenties. “Do that with my money!” Bertha Ferrer of Franklin Township says jokingly reaching for her purse. After a few more minutes of magic, Tom takes his leave of that table to a tremendous round of applause.

“I’ve done it all: comedy mind-reading shows for a few hundred people, family shows, corporate functions and cocktail parties, but I really love this. Spending a few minutes, giving a little bit of myself to every table, and helping people have a wonderful time.”
Tom will be performing at Nik’s 202 in Bridgewater on Wednesday February 17th and March 2nd from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. He will also be at the North Branch Tavern in Branchburg on Friday February 26th and March 11th from 7:00PM to 10:00 PM.
