The Garden State Theatre Organ Society presents the 1920 silent horror film “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” at the Brook Arts Center on October 27th at 7:30 pm. A must see for film and art students, silent movie buffs or anyone interested in the art of silent movies. If you haven’t seen a one before, this movie will spark your desire to dive into the world of silent film!

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, the quintessential work of German Expressionist cinema, tells the story of an insane hypnotist who uses a somnambulist (sleepwalker) to commit murders. Critic Roger Ebert called Caligari arguably "the first true horror film", and film reviewer Danny Peary called it cinema's first cult film and a precursor to arthouse films”. The first example of cinema of German Expressionism, a visual style in which not only the characters but the world itself is out of joint, creating a mindscape, a subjective psychological fantasy.

The film will be accompanied at the Brook 3/10 Wurlitzer by Brett Miller, a gifted fifteen-year-old organist who has studied with the top organists in the country. Tickets are $10 General Admission and $8 Students/Seniors.
