Closing Sale Not Yet Set For Raritan, Watchung Toys R Us Stores

RARITAN/WATCHUNG, NJ — Following the news that Toys R Us will close all, or most, of its hundreds of U.S stores, some stores such as in Cherry Hill and Wayne have already confirmed the beginning of the store’s liquidation sales.

Associates at the Raritan and Watchung locations did confirm the closure of their stores, but no liquidation or closing sales have not been announced yet. They both mentioned an email would go out once a sale is confirmed.

The Watchung store is located at 1701-45 Us Highway 22 and the Raritan store is located at 451 Route 28 off the Somerville Circle.

Last week, the company confirmed reports that it will be "winding down" operations and sell or close 735 U.S. stores. The announcement comes about six weeks after Toys R Us confirmed that it would close about 180 of its U.S. stores, including 11 in New Jersey. This includes the Bridgewater Babies R Us at 100 Promenade Boulevard and the Union and Elizabeth Babies R Us locations at 2700 Route 22 East in Union and 900 Center Drive in Elizabeth.

That announcement came six months after it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in federal court. Weak holiday sales are to blame for the chain’s ultimate demise, according to a CNBC report.

Toys R Us is studying one proposal that could keep the business alive and keep open roughly 200 U.S. and Canadian stores open after the retailer liquidates, the company said in a press release issued Wednesday.
