Students Flourish At Bridgewater's Preschool Place And Kindergarten

The Preschool Place and Kindergarten offers preschool, full-day kindergarten and open playgroups for locals in Bridgewater and beyond

Bridgewater, NJ - Tucked inside Temple Sholom, The Preschool Place and Kindergarten in Bridgewater is a non-sectarian school offering fun and education to the surrounding community.

"We are known for our quality education and attract members from the whole community," said Carol Rubnitz, who has been Director of The Preschool Place and Kindergarten for the past 25 years.

The school originally started as a mommy and me program at the temple in 1977 for 18 months to age 2 year olds. Overtime the school's population and popularity grew to offer full-day kindergarten.

Most recently the school has begun offering a class called the "Transitional Twos." The objective of the class is to create a smooth separation from the student and the student's parents to begin the next level of education.

The way the class works is the parent stays in another room where they can watch over their child as he/she socializes with other kids and the teacher. That way the child can feel comfortable leaving their parent and attending school.

"We are doing separation the right way so that the child can go smoothly into the preschool program," Rubnitz said.

The school offers an assortment of educational options and times. Students can opt to attend a half-day, full-day or extended day for families who need a longer day. The extended hours offer classes that focus on art, music, nature, literature and more.

Also relatively new at the school is the Inventor's Workshop which focuses on engineering and math to go along with the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) push.

"We are always growing and trying to keep up with the latest in early childhood education," Rubnitz said.

The school offers rolling admission all year long. The school typically runs from September through June but also offers a six-week summer program.

There is also a free playgroup that is open to the community. It meets once a week, currently on Tuesday mornings at 9:15 a.m. It gives parents and caregivers a place to go for a “play date” in a school setting.

"It's a fabulous school," Rubnitz said. "We look at every individual child and watch them grow in their own way."
