Controversial Art At SC VoTech Campus Removed

Somerset County Vocational & Technical Schools has issued a statement about an an art project that caused controversy within the school.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A piece of artwork hung at the Somerset County Vocational and Technical School has been removed for controversial reasons.

"We were made aware of an art project that caused controversy within the school. Some of the projects were viewed as political in nature, divisive and offensive," Somerset County Vocational & Technical Schools posted on Facebook.

The district has issued the following statement:

"This was not a sanctioned student project. It was described to school administration as 'street art' designed to be thought provoking and non-offensive. There was no information regarding the political nature of this project. As soon as school officials became aware of its offensive and disruptive nature, these items were removed.

Somerset County Vocational & Technical Schools prides itself on being a safe and nurturing learning environment. This 'art' is in no way a reflection of the district's core values as we are an inclusive institution that respects and appreciates diversity."
