BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Good news for members. Corporate officials are stepping in to save The Zoo Health Club of Bridgewater.

Zoo Health Club corporate official Judy Scott said the company is looking for new owners to take over the Bridgewater location inside the Somerset Shopping Center.

"We are definitely looking for someone to take over the club. We definitely will be reopening," Scott said.

"We didn't get the support we needed from the government and without receivables the bills became too much. We can not recover from being closed over 5 months. We wish it was different but our governor kept gyms closed too long," the former franchise owners posted on the gym's Instagram page.

Out of the 48 Zoo Health Club locations nationwide, Scott said the Bridgewater club was the only location to have to close due to coronavirus. She attributed the closure to Gov. Phil Murphy's decision to keep gyms closed for so long. Gyms had been closed since mid-March and Murphy only recently decided to allow gyms to reopen on Sept. 1.

Scott noted that a club location in Georgia was the first of the franchise to get permission to reopen amid the coronavirus and has since "been doing better now than before it closed."

"We shall overcome this," Scott said.
