Councilman Wants To Preserve Bridgewater's History
Bridgewater Councilman Filipe Pedroso wants to create a historical society for the township to preserve photos, videos, and artifacts.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Bridgewater Township is rich in history and Councilman Filipe Pedroso is looking to preserve it.
“For a couple of years now it’s been on my mind that we don’t really have a way in Bridgewater to protect our history,” Pedroso said. “I wanted to explore a possibility of creating some sort of historical committee that is an official part of the government.”
Pedroso approached the council recently about the idea and township attorney William Savo said he will “prepare a legal memo to see what options we have to move forward on it.”

Bridgewater was founded by the Royal Charter on April 4, 1749 and was one of New Jersey's initial group of 104 townships, Pedroso noted.
Pedroso said that the township has many long-time residents with memories, stories, artifacts, photos, videos, and memorabilia that he wants to preserve.

“We have done little to protect that knowledge,” Pedroso said.
He is hoping to create a place where the township and its residents can donate to its history.
“I would like to store this for our future generations to enjoy them,” Pedroso said.
