Dangerous Sharp Curve On Bridgewater Roadway Is Being Made Safer
This section of the road saw 28 crashes in a 4-year span. Bridgewater and Somerset County are working to form better visibility for drivers.
BRIDGEWATER, NJ — For new or unfamiliar drivers to the Bridgewater area, hitting the sharp curve on Vosseller Avenue near the intersection of Hillcrest Road can be treacherous.
From 2016 to 2020 that section of Vosseller Avenue had 28 crashes with the majority of the crashes consisting of sideswipes and head-on angular accidents, according to Bridgewater Police Sergeant Frederick J. Brittain III.
Looking at the data would lead to the conclusion that a number of crashes are due to drivers taking the curve too fast and going over the line.

"There have been many serious and near-miss accidents at the sharp downhill curve on Vosseller Avenue intersection near Hillcrest," said resident Joe Bender.
To remedy this Bridgewater Township and Somerset County are working together to lower the grade in this area for better visibility, said Bridgewater Director of Municipal Services Thomas Genova.

The portion of the property that fronts the curve of Vosseller Avenue is owned by Somerset County and is part of Washington Valley East Park.
Somerset County Director of Public Works Paul McCall said they will be "grading back the county-owned property to help with visibility around the curve."
"This will help drivers who may not be familiar with this road. The Township of Bridgewater and Somerset County have always worked together to keep Township roads safe," said Genova.
Trees at the curve were removed last week. There is no specific time frame when this will be completed but work has already begun.
