David Portnoy Visits, Reviews 2 Somerset County Pizzerias

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — During a tour of New Jersey, Founder of Barstool Sports Dave Portnoy made a point to stop at two Somerset County pizzerias.

Portnoy, a self-proclaimed pizza expert and celebrity, posts daily pizza reviews to his millions of social media followers, scoring pies on a stringent 1 to 10 scale. The videos, which often go viral, usually start with Portnoy's catch phrase, "One bite, everyone knows the rules."

He first stopped at Prima Pizza Kitchen at 131 N Gaston Ave. in Somerville. Portnoy admits in his video review that he rushed the owner at Prima to get the pizza pie out because he was late heading to his final stop in Bound Brook.

Prima's owner was still rolling out dough as Portnoy went to sample the rushed pie because he wanted to serve up something better.

Taking a bite of the pie he says, "there is zero flop here. This is good."

"It's very good, crispy. Not what he wanted to give me. Good undercarriage," said Portnoy who rated Prima a 7.7.

Portnoy then went back inside to wait for the non-rushed pie.

"It does look good, he made it thinner. Smells different. Good undercarriage. It's better. This one is definitely better. More sauce more tang.," said Portnoy.

He ranked the second pie a 8.1 but said he had to stick with the overall 7.7 rating due to the rules of one bite.

Portnoy then drove over to Stan's Chitch's Pizza Restaurant and Bar at 14 Columbus Pl. in Bound Brook.

He walked out calling it a true bar pie before showing viewers the inside of the bar.

"I do like these ladies in there and love the vibe. But I do like it a bit crispier," Portnoy. "I need more on that undercarriage."

He gave them a rating of 7.1.

During the video with Stan's Chitch's, Portnoy couldn't help mentioning his Somerset County favoriteDeLucias who he called "one of the greatest pizzas of this generation."
