Downed Tree Closes Hillcrest Road, More Power Outages Reported In Somerset County

Power is not estimated to be restored to customers in Somerset County until Wednesday, June 28.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — Downed trees from the latest passing thunderstorm have caused Hillcrest Road in Watchung to close on Tuesday.

The roadway is closed between Interstate 78 and Ridge Road, said Watchung Police in an alert sent around 6:30 p.m.

Additionally, PSE&G is reporting close to 200 customers are without power in Bridgewater Township in the area of Bon Street between Route 22 and Easton Turnpike.

Power is estimated to be restored by Wednesday, June 28 at 4:30 a.m., according to PSE&G.

JCP&L is also reporting 150 customers without power in Somerset County including in Basking Ridge, Bernardsville, Far Hills, Peapack and Gladstone, and Warren.

Power is estimated to be restored by Wednesday, June 28 at 4 p.m., according to JCP&L.

Additionally a flood advisory is in effect through 10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27 due to excessive rainfall expected.

"Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.0 inches are possible across portions of the advised area," said Somerset County Public Safety.

Some locations that may experience flooding include Somerset County and highways including:

  • Interstate 78 between mile markers 5 and 42
  • Interstate 80 between mile markers 19 and 48
  • Interstate 295 between mile markers 65 and 70
  • Interstate 287 between mile markers 5 and 53

"Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads," said Somerset County Public Safety.
