Driver Dies After Tractor Trailer Careens Down Embankment Off I-287 In Somerset County
The crash happened early in the morning on Friday around the time a thunderstorm was passing through the area.
BEDMINSTER, NJ — A driver is dead after a tractor-trailer ran off Interstate 287 into a steep embankment on Friday morning, said New Jersey State Police(NJSP) Philip Curry.
At 5:10 a.m. on Aug. 25, the crash was reported on the southbound side of I-287 at milepost 22.5 in Bedminster Township.
A preliminary investigation found that a Freightliner tractor was driving southbound when it ran off the roadway to the right, through the guide rail, and down an embankment, Curry said.

As a result of the crash, a male driver, 48, of Port Matilda, PA, sustained fatal injuries, Curry said.
The name of the driver has been withheld pending next of kin notification.

The crash remains under investigation.
Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department, Bedminster Township Police Department, Dave's Heavy Towing, Far Hills - Bedminster First Aid Squad, Somerset County Hazmat, and New Jersey State Police all responded to the crash.
