Drug-Related Graffiti In BRHS Bathroom Prompts 'Rumors,' Threat

"There is no threat, there has never been any threat and we would have communicated if we thought there was," Principal Mark Morrell said.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Graffiti found in the bathroom at Bridgewater-Raritan Regional High School has caused "rumors" to circulate and a social media threat, according to Principal Mark Morrell.

"Last night a posting on social media indicated a threat of violence today," Morrell said in a letter to parents Friday. "The police investigated the matter and the adult who posted the comment admitted to making up the entire post. There is no threat."

Extra police were placed on campus on Friday to alleviate fears, Morrell noted.

Bridgewater Police Captain Tim Hoey confirmed police did look into the matter but noted there was "no threat" to the kids at the school.

Hoey also noted that the graffiti was done sometime last week and a photo of it had recently been circulating on social media groups as a recent event prompting locals to comment on the situation as something that was happening now.

Morrell addressed the "rumors" circulating on social media that claimed the graffiti was "threatening graffiti" on Thursday.

"The photo is from last week and it was in one bathroom," Morrell said on Thursday in a letter to parents. "The reference is entirely a drug reference which was reported and investigated by police. There is no threat, there has never been any threat, and we would have communicated if we thought there was any risk to students."

After the letter went out the comments continued to spread on social media, prompting the alleged threat.

"Please stop spreading these rumors, I assure you that we will communicate any relevant safety issues which may come up," Morrell said on Thursday.
