DUI Driver Crashes, Sends 2 Cars Through Gas Station Off Route 22 In North Plainfield: Police

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — A driver was charged with driving under the influence after crashing into a gas station convenience store off Route 22 in North Plainfield, according to a police report obtained by Patch.

On Sunday at 5:44 p.m., Joenesha Stuckey-Vanhorne, 30, of Plainfield, was driving a Volkswagen Tiguan on Route 22 West when she drove over a concrete sidewalk/island at a high rate of speed, according to a North Plainfield police report.

The SUV then continued onto the Sunoco Gas Station property where it crashed into a concrete retaining wall, hit a parked Honda Accord, and into the Sunoco convenience store, according to the report.

An employee inside the store complained of pain to his right leg due to the impact of both vehicles being sent into the store. He refused further medical attention, according to police.

Stuckey-Vanhorne was charged with DUI, careless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, no liability insurance, speeding across a sidewalk, open container of alcohol, reckless driving, and traffic on marked lanes.

As a result, there was heavy damage to the Sunoco convenience store, including the gas lines, and moderate damage to the retaining wall.

The North Plainfield Fire Department "secured the scene, checked for injuries, and worked to stabilize the vehicle and structure."
