E-Scooter Rider Hospitalized After Falling, Injuring Head On Route 22 In Somerset County

BRANCHBURG, NJ — An electric scooter rider was hospitalized after falling and injuring their head on Route 22 in Branchburg, said police.

On Friday at around 1:48 p.m., Branchburg Police were called to the area of Route 22 East and Readington Road for the report of a person who may have been potentially hit by a vehicle while operating his scooter.

Police said that the operator of the scooter - identified as a 35-year-old man from Branchburg - was seen by a witness to have lost control of the scooter while riding.

The man then fell ont o the blacktop and hit his head. The man was wearing a helmet, said Branchburg Police Captain Edward Edgar.

Two Good Samaritans stopped and immediately began rendering medical aid as they awaited first responders.

New Jersey State Police NorthStar Medivac was requested until Williams' injuries were known.

An investigation confirmed that Williams had fallen from his scooter while riding east on Route 22 and hit his head.

Williams showed an altered level of consciousness; however, he was alert and able to communicate with first responders, said Edgar.

Branchburg Rescue EMS and Hunterdon Medical Center Paramedics arrived, and Williams was ultimately taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital New Brunswick due to his injuries.
