Early Dismissal For Raritan Valley Community College Due To Icy Weather

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Somerset County on Friday.

BRANCHBURG, NJ — Raritan Valley Community College will close at 1 p.m. Friday due to the impending ice storm.

All classes and events are canceled.

Some other Somerset County school districts including Branchburg, Warren, Watchung Hills, and Pingry are also dismissing students early on Friday.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Somerset County from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday. Freezing rain is expected with total ice accumulations of a light glaze, according to the National Weather Forecast.

This will create very slippery sidewalks, roads, and especially bridges and overpasses are possible.

Friday: Periods of rain before 2 p.m., then freezing rain likely between 2 and 5 p.m., then a chance of freezing rain and sleet after 5 p.m. Temperature falling to around 31 by 5 p.m. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. North wind 5 to 10 mph.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 28. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 12. Northwest wind around 5 mph.
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 32. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 21.
