Electric Vehicle Charging Station Opens In Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Need a charge? Drive by the Target parking lot in Bridgewater where Electrify America opened its first ultra-fast charging station in New Jersey.

The newly installed station is located at the Target store at 200 Promenade Blvd. The company plans to install 10 more charging stations featuring 59 chargers in the state in coming months including in Cherry Hill, East Brunswick, Secaucus, Kearny, Pompton Plains, Clifton, Elizabeth, Fairfield, Jersey City and Somerdale.

Depending on the location, the charging stations range in power from 50 kilowatts (kW) to 150 kW and up to 350kW, which can charge a vehicle at speeds up to 20 miles per minute, the company stated.

"Bridgewater Township has been a long supporter of electric vehicles. We are thrilled to be the home of Electrify America’s first EV charging stations in New Jersey," said Bridgewater Mayor Daniel Hayes. "We recently received two grants from Sustainable Jersey and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to purchase public EV charging stations to install on Township properties. We plan to have them operational by the fall. The opening of these stations at The Promenade is an excellent complement to our EV initiative."

Additionally, the Bridgewater Township Environmental Commission will be hosting the 5th annual Electric Ride in partnership with Plug In America at the Municipal Complex on Thursday, Sept. 19 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. This event takes place during Drive Electric Week and includes, food trucks, live music, and dozens of EVs on display.
