Emergency Blood Donations Needed: Drive To Be Held In Bridgewater

The New Jersey Blood Services says emergency blood donations are needed now to prevent summer shortages.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — The New Jersey Blood Services says emergency blood donations are needed now to prevent summer shortages. Several upcoming drives will be held in the Somerset County area.

Upcoming blood drives include:

  • Sunday, July 8: St. Bernard's Church, 500 Rt. 22 East, Bridgewater 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Wednesday, July 11: J&J Ethicon G Building, 555 Route 22 West, Somerville 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 14: J&J Ethicon Research Towers, 555 Route 22 West, Somerville 8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Current inventory of several blood types is running below the desired target level and the need for donations is now, according to NJBS, a division of New York Blood Center.

“It’s simple: hospital patient demand for blood often outpaces our best efforts to recruit donors and schedule blood drives,” said NYBC Executive Director of Donor Recruitment Andrea Cefarelli. “There are always reasons but we have to overcome that for the sake of hospital patients who need us.”

“This is one of the toughest times of the year,” Cefarelli added. “We’re asking for our dedicated supporters to roll up their sleeves to make sure we’re able to provide our hospital partners with whatever they need to take care of their patients.”
