Central Jersey Symphony Spring Concert: "Exotic Landscapes"

The Central Jersey Symphony will present its final concert of the 2010-11 season on Saturday, May 7 at 8:00 p.m. at the Theater at Raritan Valley Community College. The performance, called “Exotic Landscapes”, will feature works by Saint-Saëns, Tchaikovsky, and Venezuelan composer Antonio Estevez. CJSO concertmaster Evelyn Estava will join the orchestra as soloist for Saint-Saëns’ Violin Concerto no. 3. Also on the program are Tchaikovsky’s Symphony no. 1, titled “Winter Dreams”, and “Mediodia en el Llano (Noontime on the Plain)” by Antonio Estevez. Music Director Michael Avagliano will give a pre-concert talk with the audience at 7:30 p.m.

Evelyn Estava, the orchestra’s concertmaster and a Venezuelan native, will perform as soloist. Ms. Estava emigrated to the United States in 1999, and has established herself as one of the sought-after performers in the New York metropolitan area. She performs regularly as a soloist with orchestras in the region, as well as in her native Venezuela. She is also first violinist with the Madison String Quartet, one of the area’s leading chamber ensembles.

Tickets for the May 7 performance are $20, $15 for seniors and $10 for students. Advance tickets can be purchased by calling the RVCC box office at (908) 725-3420 or in person at the theater.

The Central Jersey Symphony is funded in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through funds administered by the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission’s Local Arts Program.
