Raritan Valley Symphonic Band Children's Concert: "Pajama Jam"

The Raritan Valley Symphonic Band will present its annual children’s concert on Sunday, February 6th at 3:00 pm in the Bridgewater-Raritan High School auditorium. The concert will be followed by a demonstration of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments in the auditorium lobby given by members of the band. The school is located at 600 Garretson Road in Bridgewater. Admission is free and open to the public.

The theme of the concert, for children ages two to ten, is “Pajama Jam!” and will feature songs about children’s stories and fairy tales.  The Band will play “Toyland” by Victor Herbert, “The Teddy Bear’s Picnic” by John Bratton, “The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm” by Bob Merrill, and selections from “The Mother Goose Suite” by Maurice Ravel, along with some music from Disney animated features and other songs. The concert will be approximately forty-five minutes long.

The children’s concert will be conducted by Ms. Jennifer Eidel, the assistant conductor and principal clarinetist of the RVSB. Ms. Eidel is also a member of the Eastern Wind Symphony, and is a former music educator in the Somerset and Hunterdon county public schools. The RVSB is an 85-member adult symphonic band with volunteer membership drawn from central New Jersey and the surrounding area. The band is known for its tradition of bringing quality music to the community, frequently featuring some of New Jersey’s most talented soloists, and providing free and accessible music education outreach to the community.

The band was the recipient of a 2007 Excellence in the Arts Award from the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission.  On Sunday, April 10, 2011, the band will be presenting their Spring Concert entitled “Overture, Curtain, Lights; This Is The Night Of Nights!” featuring guest soloist Joe Alessi, who has been the principal trombone player of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra since 1985.

The concert is made possible, in part, by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts and administered by the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission through the State/County Partnership Local Arts Program. The Band is sponsored by the Jointure for Community Adult Education and by contributions from local businesses, corporations, foundations and private citizens. For more information about the concert, becoming a sponsor, to request assistance for persons with disabilities, or to inquire about joining the Band, consult the Band’s website at www.rvsb.org or call
