Victims ID'd In Fatal Fiery Crash On I-287 South In Bridgewater

The crash which involved entrapment caused all lanes on the southbound side to close on Thursday evening.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — The victims killed in a fiery car crash on Interstate 287 South in Bridgewater on Thursday have been identified.

The driver was identified as, Fred Vonrecklinghausen, 79, of Livingston, Texas, and the passenger was identified as, Delores Vonrecklinghausen, 82, of Livingston, Texas, said New Jersey State Sgt. Alejandro Goez.

Both had fatal injuries from the crash, said Goez.

The crash was reported at 3:39 p.m. on the southbound side at milepost 17.5 in Bridgewater Township, said Goez.

Vonrecklinghausen was driving a Honda CRV south when it went off the road to the right, hit the guardrail end, and a concrete bridge support pillar, said Goez.

Emergency responders including a medivac were called to the scene. As a result, all lanes on the southbound side were closed. Lanes have since reopened.
