Flash Flood Warning Issued For Somerset County
The warning was issued for Somerset County as torrential rainfall and severe thunderstorms hit the area on Sunday.
SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Somerset County on Sunday as torrential rainfall and severe thunderstorms hit the area.
The warning issued by the National Weather Service is in effect through 11 p.m. on Sunday, July 9.
Thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area have already dropped between 1 and 2 inches of rain.

An additional 0.5 to 1.5 inches are possible in Somerset County on Sunday, according to the NWS.
Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Flooding may occur in small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other drainage and low-lying areas.

"Turn around...don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads," said the NWS.

Sunday Night: Showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., then a chance of showers after 2 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 69. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
Monday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Monday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
