Somerville’s former Mayor Dennis Sullivan was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Somerset County Democratic Committee at its annual Demmy Awards ceremony on February 15. Sullivan served on the Borough Council from 1995 and was Mayor from 2017-2023
This was a second recognition for Sullivan who was inducted into the New Jersey State League of Municipalities Elected Officials Hall of Fame in 2019.
Somerville Democratic Chair Margaret Weinberger noted the appreciation of the Somerville Democratic Committee and borough residents for Mayor Sullivan’s leadership, mentorship, and sharing of time. “We welcome this honor and are proud to call him a leader and friend,” said Chairwoman Weinberger.

The Somerset County Democratic Committee hosts their annual Demmy event to recognize outstanding service and contributions to the County Democratic Party. The honorees for 2024 included Joan Pritchard of Bridgewater, who received the Social Activist Award, and Somerset County Commissioner Paul Drake, honored as this year’s Best Campaigner. The event was held at the Somerville Elks Hall in Bridgewater, and other award categories included Best Volunteer and Most Enthusiastic.
