BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Darlene Mc Mahon, mother of twin disabled girls in Bridgewater, is asking the community for help after their furnace broke and they are unable to repair it.

Darlene Mc Mahon took to social media to set up a fundraiser in hopes of collecting $5,000 to cover the costs of a new furnace and installation at her ex-husband's home in Bridgewater, where her twin 24-year-old girls are living.

The furnace broke two winters ago and is unable to be repaired. A technician advised the family a new furnace was needed. The cost for a new furnace with installation is between $5,000 to $7,000.

"My ex-husband is semi-retired and recently started working part-time. But they were out of heat all of last winter with a few electric heaters," said Mc Mahon.

Mc Mahon says she brings her girls to her home constantly because the electric heaters aren't doing enough.

"When I would come over they would be sitting there with a scarf and coat and under blankets. It gets me really emotional," said Mc Mahon.

Mc Mahon took to Facebook to set up a fundraiser in hopes of getting help.

"This year is brutal. I've always been their primary caregiver but I am tight with a fixed income. I have tried calling social services and been looking around. I am not one to ask for stuff but when it comes to my kids it's a different story," said Mc Mahon.

Both of Mc Mahon's daughters are Bridgewater-Rartian High School graduates and Mc Mahon is reaching out to the community in hopes of getting help to keep her girls warm in the winter.
