RARITAN, NJ — A garbage truck caught fire Monday morning behind the Dollar Tree in Raritan.

The fire was reported around 8:47 a.m. to a Republic garbage truck in the Dollar Tree's parking lot just off Route 206, said Raritan Fire Chief Brian Kredatus.

A mechanical issue caused the cardboard in the back of the truck to ignite, setting fire to the rest of the truck, said Kredatus.
