Governor Murphy To Speak At Rartian Valley College Commencement

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Raritan Valley Community College's first commencement ceremony​ in 1970.

BRANCHBURG, NJ — New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy will deliver the commencement address at Raritan Valley Community College’s spring commencement at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 16. This year marks the 50th anniversary of RVCC’s first commencement ceremony in 1970.

Murphy also will receive an honorary degree during the ceremony, which will be held on the soccer field at the College’s Branchburg campus at 118 Lamington Road.

"I'm honored to deliver the commencement address at this year's Raritan Valley Community College spring commencement," said Murphy. "RVCC has a long and proud history of educating students in Somerset and Hunterdon Counties and preparing them for jobs in the 21st-century economy. I look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of this year’s graduating class with students, their families, and the campus community."

"We are honored that Governor Murphy will speak at the 50th anniversary of Raritan Valley Community College’s first commencement ceremony. Governor Murphy has been a leader in opening up access to higher education and strengthening the role community colleges play in transforming the lives of students of all ages and backgrounds," said Dr. Michael McDonough, president of RVCC.

The College, which had been known as Somerset County College, had 75 graduates at its first commencement in May 1970. In 2020, 1,100 students are expected to be awarded associate degrees or certificates from RVCC.
