Hansel N Griddle Closes For Renovations, To Reopen Under New Name

SOMERVILLE, NJ — After many years in downtown Somerville Hansel 'n Griddle has closed its doors. No need to fear though, as it will be reopening Thursday under a new brand — Mike's Courtside Kitchen.

Longtime employee Michael Ivers of Hansel 'n Griddle announced the restaurant's closure on Saturday, April 20 for renovations and rebranding.

Ivers began working at the franchise restaurant 13 years ago before taking over as owner six years ago.

Now he is working on converting the joint into his own establishment, aptly named for its location, next to the Somerset County Courthouse at the corner of Main Street and N Bridge Street in Somerville.

"I'm grateful for the time I've had with the Hansel 'n Griddle family, but am very excited to add my own personal touch to Mike's Courtside Kitchen," Ivers said in a statement on his website. "We will continue to work tirelessly every day to deliver to you healthy, fresh, and delicious food at a fair price. And yes, we still have free pickles."

The decision to convert the restaurant was an amicable decision with the franchise, according to an email sent to customers.

"We have worked together for over a decade and both agree a change would be best for everyone," the email states.

Hansel 'n Griddle will still operate its other locations in New Brunswick, Red Bank, and Denville.

The renovations are slated to be completed by Thursday, April 25 or soon thereafter.

Mike's Courtside will have the same ownership, staff, phone number, and a similar menu in the newly designed restaurant space.
