High Heat Forces Early Dismissal For Bridgewater-Raritan Students

The regional school district will switch to a 4-hour session day schedule for Wednesday and Thursday as a result of rising temperatures.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Extreme and unusual heat will force the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District to close early on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

"Due to the Heat Advisory that has been issued for our area, we will be switching to a 4-Hour session day schedule for Wednesday and Thursday of this week (September 6 and 7)," said the district on Tuesday.

Lunch will be served at all schools on both days except at the high school. The decision for Friday will be made on Thursday morning.

Parents and students are asked to refer to the website for School Hours.

Aftercare Programs will not be available on Wednesday and Thursday.

The High School administration will communicate changes in schedules related to extracurricular activities and athletics.

A Heat Advisory was issued by the National Weather Service for Bridgewater for Sept. 5 and 6 due to forecasted hot temperatures and high humidity.

Heat index values up to 102 are expected.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 71. Calm wind.

Thursday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 95. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Thursday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 91. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
