Homicide, Shooting Raise Questions In Somerset County

The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office is asking the public for help to figure out a motive in a fatal shooting on Tuesday night.

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — Authorities are asking the public for help following a homicide in Somerset County on Tuesday night.

On Tuesday, March 1, at around 9:36 p.m., North Plainfield Police went to the area of Grove Street and Prospect Place following a 911 call reporting shots fired, said Acting Somerset County Prosecutor Thomas Chirichella.

Officers found a man who had been shot on Grove Street and immediately began life-saving measures and requested emergency medical personnel to come.

North Plainfield Fire Department and EMS personnel took the man, identified as Steve J. Camino, 26, of Grove Street, North Plainfield, to an area trauma center where he was pronounced dead, said Chirichella.

New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will be performing an autopsy.

Detectives from the North Plainfield Police Department along with the Somerset County
Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Crime Scene Investigations Unit are trying to establish a motive for the homicide and find out who was involved.

Any potential witnesses or anyone with knowledge of the incident are urged to contact authorities.
