House Fire Sparks Near Lithium-Ion Batteries In Bridgewater

The homeowner and one firefighter had minor injuries from the fire in the Martinsville section of Bridgewater.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A house fire, that began near where several lithium-ion batteries were being charged, injured two people on Friday.

On July 21 just before 2 a.m., Bridgewater Police and Firefighters were called to 1397 Coriell Drive for a report of a structure fire, said Police Lt. Kevin Lamey.

The fire was called in by the homeowner who was alerted by a smoke alarm.

"The fire originated in the basement of the residence, in the area of a workbench where several lithium-ion batteries were being charged," said Lamey.

Finderne Fire Department and Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department came to the scene to extinguish the fire.

The homeowner and one firefighter were evaluated at the scene for minor injuries.

The investigation revealed the fire was not suspicious.
