Third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students at Lafayette Elementary School in Bound Brook collected almost 400 pounds of donations during their own “Curbing Hunger” food drive.
“The students did an outstanding job,” said Freeholder Director Patrick Scaglione. “The food they collected will have a big impact at the Food Bank Network.”
Curbing Hunger Month is in its 20th year in Somerset County. Students at the school decided to take up their own collection to supplement the donations that residents will be putting at the curb during the month of June.
The 390 pounds collected works out to about one pound for every student and staff member in the school building, according to teacher Michelle Conover.
