Local Health Insurance Professionals Attends NABIP’s Legislative Conference

(Washington, DC) – The National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals (NABIP) held its 34th Annual Capitol Conference on February 25-28 in Washington, DC. The theme of this year’s meeting was “The Future Starts Now” and more than 500 insurance professionals from across the country addressed this topic by discussing the future climate of the healthcare industry, and its impact on health insurance and employee benefits professionals.

Several members of the Central New Jersey Chapter, including Mark Shore, Brandi Bowers, MaryAnne Egan, Ross Honig, Stephen Honig, Nathan Martin, and Chris Vanderwolk attended this conference, both for the opportunity to learn more about healthcare reform and its impact on healthcare consumers, as well as to communicate the role of the agent and brokers to Congress. They visited with the offices of Thomas Kean, Mikie Sherril, Andy Kim, Chris Smith and more. The Central NJ NABIP chapter leaders are both local and national leaders, holding positions on committees and working groups surrounding individual and employer sponsored health plans, prescription drug pricing and access, and actively working with state and federal legislators.

Capitol Conference guest speakers included key healthcare policymakers and leaders who addressed the future of health reform. Other presentations addressed mental health advocacy, Medicare trends, broker compensation disclosure requirements, and using AI to improve health equity and innovation within the marketplace.

“It’s critical that we continue to provide our members with the tools they need to stay informed about health reform and what has been implemented, while also giving them a voice to have an impact on regulations that have yet to be made,” said NABIP CEO Jessica Brooks-Woods. “We’re educating agents and brokers, so they know what to expect and how to best prepare and assist their clients. The Central Chapter delegation was particularly honored when Mrs. Brooks-Woods accompanied them to their meeting with Representative Thomas Kean Jr.’s office.

“Every year, our members look forward to engaging in an open discussion about healthcare reform and the role of the broker with their legislators,” said NABIP President Eric Kohlsdorf. “We believe there is a critical need to ensure that the healthcare delivery system is solvent, accessible, and efficient. NAHU’s Capitol Conference gives us the tools we need to help our clients access the coverage they deserve at a price they can afford. It’s crucial that we continue to provide our members with timely resources, while empowering them to have a voice to impact policy decisions.”
