“Roman Jewelers wants this to be a really light-hearted, fun and exciting opportunity for local residents who have always wanted to be on television,” she said. “Roman Jewelers decided that Facebook was the best way to find local talent to participate in the contest because the business uses its Facebook page every day to communicate with its customers.”

Basically, those looking to participate are asked to go to the business’s Facebook page and explain why they think they should win a part in the holiday commercial. The company is looking for 15 local residents who are looking for a chance to let their loved ones know what they want for the holidays, namely jewelry from the business, according to a release about the contest.

In the contest, 15 winners will be chosen to land speaking roles in the 2011 holiday television commercial, as well as a prize pack valued at more than $250.

That prize pack for the 15 winners, according to the release, includes a $100 gift certificate to Roman Jewelers, a pair of pearl stud earrings and jewelry cleaner.

“The idea was developed because Roman Jewelers wanted local residents in their holiday commercial to give it an extremely local feel,” Quaglia said.

Quaglia said the company is promoting the contest through Facebook advertisements and local public relations, and is hoping to have at least 50 entries before choosing 15.

“This is the first time Roman Jewelers has ever done a contest or commercial like this,” she said.

The contest is currently open, and will run through Sept. 23. Filming will begin in October.

“We designed this contest for local residents who have tried for years to give subtle hints that jewelry is what they want, only to open their holiday present and be disappointed,” Quaglia said. “For the 15 people we select, we believe the chances of their significant other misreading their holiday wishes will be slim to none after seeing them on television saying exactly what they want.”

Quaglia said the company is trying to get the public involved in its holiday advertising.

“We wanted to give customers a fun opportunity to be on television, and also wanted to provide locals the ability to say exactly what they want for their holiday present on television to their significant others, as part of the humor of the commercial,” she said.
